The Museo de los Niños (Children's Museum), is located at the Centro Costarricense de la Ciencia y la Cultura complex in the capital of San José. It contains great interactive displays educating children in various topics from Astronomy, natural planet and ecology to science, human life and communications. Children walk through 39 rooms learning and interacting to discover new interesting information. Visitors can experience a simulated earthquake, make music by dancing on the floor, or see themselves in weird mirrors.
The Museo de los Niños was first an old penitentiary; in fact, it was one of the worst in the country. Nowadays it is a beautiful children´s museum in which visitors could also see parts of the jail. The museum also features Art Exhibitions and Art Shows; it is also home of the National Auditorium.
It is open from Tuesday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The entrance fee is 700 Colones for kids, and 1.000 Colones for each Adult. It is also open on weekends from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the price changes a little bit: 800 Colones for kids and 1.100 Colones for adults. The address for the Children´s Museum is Calle 4 and Av. 9.
